At Least 9 Palestinians Killed as Violence Escalates in West Bank Amid Israel-Hamas Conflict

Date:

Antony J. Blinken, the U.S. secretary of state, met with leaders in Jordan and Qatar on Sunday to address the risk of conflict spreading in the region. In Amman, he met separately with King Abdullah II and Ayman Safadi, Jordan’s foreign minister, and commented on Jordan’s role in sending humanitarian aid to Gaza. The U.S. has been pressuring Israel to allow more aid into Gaza. Mr. Blinken visited a warehouse with boxes of canned food intended for Gaza, coordinated by the United Nations World Food Program.

In Doha, Qatar, he met with the emir and the prime minister, discussing the conflict’s possible expansion and recent attacks by the Houthi militia in the Red Sea. Mr. Blinken flew to Abu Dhabi on Monday following the meetings in Doha. He had previously visited Turkey and Greece and expressed the belief that Turkey could assist in postwar Gaza.
